Wakey, Wakey, Rise and Shine!

Dad was off to the sale yards again today, another load of meat lambs. I really wanted to help Dad out this morning so I set the alarm. It seems I didn't need to worry about the alarm clock, the tweeting birds woke me up at 6.30am.

A quick bowl of weet-bix, dressed and I disappeared with Dad.

I love working in the sheepyards, I am getting good at moving the sheep about on my own, without anyone's help BUT my mate Beau.

BUT there are some things....that I am not quite big enough for...

I can only just reach the gate latches...

and I can only just get in and out of the truck on my own.

BUT I can tie Beau up and look after him!

Mum and Dad are a little disappointed today, the lambs made $116.50. The market must be cheaper than Friday, because the lambs were nearly as good but made a lot less money. Alot of work went into the lambs so we would like to get the best money we can.

Remember pulling the lambs as they were born, marking the lambs for diseases, crutching the lambs to keep their bottoms clean. WE really looked after them well!

To Market, To Market!

Time for the bulls to meet the cows.......

Dad and Mum take the bulls out, they are really BIG. One bull goes with each mob of cows, they will spend 6 weeks visiting the cows, then they will come home again!

left, right, left, right, march ahead!

Look at that dirty BUTT!

Now that shearing is finished there are a few odd jobs that need to be caught up.

The meat lambs that were drafted up for sale are now VERY ready! Mum and Dad have been busy in the shearing shed and have not been able to get them to the sale yards. Today was sale day and off to market they went!

Up the race....and
on the truck....to market, to market!

and off they went!

Dad gets to the sale yards early before it gets too busy, there are lots of lambs expected at the yards today 7000 or more. I hope the meat buyers like ours the best.

The lambs sold really well  $134.00, that is great.
Maybe we will have a few more for next week.

Day Spa visit for Lambs

The meat lambs are getting fatter and fatter. They are nearly ready to go to sale. But before they can go, all their bottoms need to be cleaned up. The shearers came and cleaned up all the lambs that are nearly ready for sale. Dad says he hopes all these ones are sold before Christmas The lambs too small for sale have all been shorn, they will grow a bit better without their wool on.

I love working in the shearing shed.

BUT sometimes I get a little tired, lucky there are plenty of warm cosy places to rest!

When the weather turns warm flies appear. Flies are a bit of a nusiance on the farm especially when it comes to sheep. Dad gives the meat lambs a shower with some special chemical that will keep the flies away. We really don't want our lambs to get sick or fly blown now they are nearly ready for sale!
